Stroke

Stroke is a serious medical condition that occurs when the blood supply to the brain is suddenly interrupted due to a blocked, narrowed, or ruptured blood vessel. As a result, brain tissue is deprived of oxygen, causing brain cells to become damaged or die. This may lead to paralysis, weakness, disability, or even death if not treated promptly.

Key Warning Signs to Recognize (F.A.S.T.):

• F (Face): Facial drooping or an uneven smile, with one side of the mouth drooping.

• A (Arm): Weakness or numbness in one arm or leg; inability to raise one arm properly.

• S (Speech): Slurred speech, difficulty speaking, or inability to speak clearly.

• T (Time): Time is critical. Seek immediate medical attention and go to the hospital as quickly as possible.

Types of Stroke:

• Ischemic Stroke: Caused by a blood clot or fatty deposits blocking blood flow to the brain.

• Hemorrhagic Stroke: Caused by a ruptured blood vessel leading to bleeding within the brain.

Recommendation:

If any of these symptoms occur, the patient should receive emergency medical care within 4.5 hours to reduce the risk of permanent disability and improve the chances of recovery and survival.
